snerko Fuhgetaboutit...I think I left a piss puddle when I saw my newest prized possession. But before you go clicking to try and buy one, can’t you read?! You can’t have it! It’s all mine!… and it’s the only one in the world! Keep reading… this is a more than a bit unusual…

Snerko is an art project by “the world’s foremost handwritten t-shirt designer”, Dan Rollman. A few things make it truely unusual. First, Dan interviews people in person or on the phone for about 15 minutes to get to know them, then designs a custom tee for them from what he’s gathered in the course of the conversation - apparently Dan could tell the severity of my tee addiction when we talked. This blew me away when I got it. It’s what I’ve always wanted, but didn’t know it. A tee that nobody else anywhere has, and let’s them know it, and let’s them know a little something about me all at the same time.

Secondly, in true Burning Man fashion (where you might find Dan making making shirts for people) - they’re not for sale. They are done for art’s sake, beyond the value our everyday economic society puts on everything. He’s the fashion designer of the “gifting economy.” Where things are given away or traded for.

Or you might find him and his photographer partner having a gallery show in which visitors are greeted with a wall full of empty frames. Over the course of the evening, Dan will visit with people, bust out some shirts, give them to people, while photos are taken of them on their proud new owners and placed in the frames creating the gallery showing.

So, by now you’re asking, “If they aren’t for sale, how can I get one?” Right? Well, hit Dan up with a barter offer and you just might find yourself wearing a Rollman original one day soon.

note: The one in the picture here is mine if you haven’t guessed. I was gonna title this post “Economics Aside” before I knew what my tee was gonna say, but had to change it once I tore the package open and saw this beauty.

Much Respect to my man Dan. Go see Snerko now!

and sorry for the shitty picture, the connector on my USB cable for my digital camera is fucked up so I had to throw this on the scanner.
