tee-shirts on tour: Finland!
Saturday, November 1, 2008 8:29Okay, on our November world tour of t-shirts I’m starting in the far north with … Finland! No, not Tom of Finland (is it just me, or does that sound like the world’s most boring porn film?) but with an import shop. Whoo hoo, be still my beating heart!
I did try to find a Finnish based T-shirt emporium but all I could find was the Finnish National Gallery which had just one tee, and that looked like a dishcloth (forgive me if I insult your national heritage here, but it did, it really did!)

I liked this tee for two reasons, despite it being the world’s most crap-awful picture of a perfectly good T-shirt: one – I knew who Mika Maki was, which made me feel cosmopolitan and two – I like a good pun (that’s a play on words, not the word for doing the dirty in Finnish). Speaking of which, doesn’t Touch of Finland also have a vaguely pervy undertone to your ears, or is that just the mood I’m in today (answers on a postcard …)
The Touch of Finland people say, ‘Tervetuloa! Welcome to our online store. We offer Finnish gifts and souvenirs you will find no where else. You will also find a magnificent selection of famous designs by Iittala of Finland. In addition, you will find a variety of fun Yooper gifts that will bring a smile on the coldest winter day. We invite you to step inside for a truly unique online experience.’
Um yeah. The truly unique online experience is exactly like every other online experience you get by visiting a shopfront that was bought off the shelf from a bored designer, but there you go. And what’s a Yooper, I hear you say? A Yooper is somebody who comes from the Upper Peninisula of Michigan, an area where people speak a strange tongue which blends American and Finnish.
Post by Kay, who wishes she’d taken the Southern route around the T-shirt world, it’s cold up here!
