Winter T-shirt
Wednesday, February 4, 2009 10:03Zoo York is one of those too cool for their own good companies that trades on a strong rep created by a major cultural figure. In their case it’s ALI, the art name of musician Marc André Edmonds, who also went by J. Walter Negro, “The Playin’ Brown Rapper.”
He coined the term ‘Zoo York’ originally for the subway tunnel that ran under Central Park Zoo, where the “old school” graffiti writers hung around. He died in the 90s from cocaine addiction, but his ironic observation that New York was not a city but a zoo where people were imprisoned in tiny apartments and offices and transported in tiny cages such as subway trains, led to a new satirical view of New York which has been adopted by the Zoo York brand to support their skater clothing.
Anyhoo … Zoo York have something for the weather – it’s an excellent 100% cotton long-sleeved T-shirt, with cuffs to keep the cold out. It’s nowhere near as scruffy as a lot of skater stuff and you can get your hands on it in the UK from Kate’s Skates – postage free!

wow was a great t shirt but I will think with the hip hop style of all over printed items it would probably sell more on a hooded zipper jacket
