Girlie Tee from Use Small Words

There’s always a bit of an issue about girlie T-shirts. Is it okay to talk about them, does it just pander to the male desire to gaze at female anatomy in close-fitting clothing, should there even be girlie Tees when the whole ethos of the T-shirt is casual, unisex, one-size-fits-all?

Who cares!

The point is, men and women are different, and T-shirts need to be different too. This is highlighted by the excellence of the design of this T-shirt by Use Small Words who are fast becoming one of the most intelligent T-shirt design teams around, not just because of their designing skills, which are high, but because they are linking their work to wider issues like the history of design and socially responsible business. This is cool.

This T-shirt also, is cool.

It’s cool because it’s designed to shape and frame the female form perfectly. It’s cool because the background and lettering colors work so well together, to be feminine without being garish. A bit of a bitch to be sure about that though, because their website images, might leave you completely confused trying to work out the base color: the shirt is a soft pale pink, not the bright coral that appears in the close-up picture …

… which is a bit of a marketing failure on USW’s part, I think. I opened their site in IE and Firefox to check if it was a browser issue and it isn’t – it’s a site issue) and it’s cool because the message it carries is clever enough to make you feel (if you’re a female) that you didn’t waste the time you spent reading it. If you’re a male, by and large, I don’t think you feel you’ve wasted any time if it’s been spent staring at a woman’s torso.

Top marks for the Tee, slightly lower marks for the presentation which could have been worked on to make sure the teeshirt appeared more true to actual color in all the pictures, but overall, this one’s a winner in my book.

Not that I’m totally impressed, but this is a lot more than I expected for when I stumpled upon a link on SU telling that the info is awesome. Thanks.
