Wimbledon T-shirt … Murray in a hurry
Wednesday, June 24, 2009 11:02
Get it while it’s fresh – or at least wearable! This year the UK has a real Wimbledon contender in Andy ‘Game, Set’ Murray – or at least we do until he gets knocked out.
Nadal is already out, and a Murray/Federer final is on the cards. That’s what the British media would have us believe, anyway, and call me stupid, but I’m putting my money on the canny Scot.
Over at his official shop, he’s also got some wearable merchandise, unlike Tim Henman, whose promotional gear seemed to be designed by a 1980’s disco fan. This T-shirt is not exactly funny, but it’s almost amusing and the layout is professional, as if a British athlete who isn’t called Beckham has actually managed to get it together with a design team that know what the under 25s are willing to wear.
It’s weird how bad most British athletes are at clothing. Leaving aside the extremes of Chris Eubank in his check plus fours and monocle and Rio Ferdinand who has never been seen out of a tracksuit, as if he grows ‘em and sheds ‘em like snakes and skins, you can’t pick a single snappy dresser out. Ignore Beckham, we all know his missus chooses his clothes.
Is a well-designed tee-shirt an omen for the 2009 winner? Dunno, but the summer is hot, the strawberries are ripe and now they’ve got the new roof, Cliff Richard can’t sing to us any more … maybe we could lift that cup too!
