The ‘we’re going to need a bigger boat’ T-shirt
Wednesday, August 26, 2009 11:09If you didn’t get the film reference, then the rest of this blog is going to do absolutely nothing for you.

Seen in the streets, this Slovak chap, wearing quite a sad hat but an excellent T-shirt. Word one of English he had not, and my Slovak is equally not there, so our exchange was limited to a handshake, a photo and him pointing to himself and saying ‘Slovak’. Actually, come to think of it, do you get Slovaks called Slovak? Because if you do …
Anyway, deprived of any communication about this urban shark themed T-shirt, I went on the hunt for a shark of my own.
There’s some marine-based rubbish out there, I’m telling you! If I was a trawler, I’d have been loaded down with crappy T-shirts featuring improbably foreshortened Great Whites gnashing their chops at the passing public and causing consternation only in those of an artistic disposition who would have gone home totally depressed by the way T-shirt designers seemed incapable of drawing a shark that was properly proportional, rather than having a mouth the size of a small car and a tail the size of a sardine.

I digress. I did find a very good T-shirt. The kind of T-shirt that looks good and makes you feel good. Good. Not a word most of us associate with sharks, but there you go – life is surprising, or it will be for Slovak the Slovak if he finds himself on line.

The T-shirt can be found at the Watersports Warehouse, with its faintly pervy slogan of ‘come in out of the dry’. Apparently shark numbers are on the decline, because we are greedy, nasty creatures – and I thought it was the sharks who were the bad guys! So if you buy this nifty teeshirt, some of the cost goes to shark conservation. And then maybe the naff T-shirt designers will meet a shark and either learn to draw it properly, or get eaten. Either way, the planet benefits.

After reading this article I have leaned more about sharks than the t shirt itself. Coming back to the design from a distance you cannot tell that this is a shark design t shirt so I think the design needs more work for it to be appealing. What about having JAWS on there..!
