Och Aye The Noo T-shirt

For those who don’t do Scottish, today is St Andrews Day. Och aye! And if you don’t know about St Andrew, shame on you!

Here’s a bit of genuine folklore – in Germany on 30 November, single women who wish to marry are supposed to ask for St Andrew’s help. The night before the 30th, if they sleep naked, they will see their future husbands in their dreams. Young women should also note the location of barking dogs on St Andrew’s Eve, as their future husbands will come from that direction. I can imagine many a randy German with a small dog squeezed under his arm, staring up at the bedroom windows of the village hottie.

Anyhoo, that’s not how we do it in Scotland. Och no. We have a weekend of getting off oour heids on whisky, playing rugby, sporting the saltire which is the St Andrew’s cross for the ignorant among you, arguing with each other and declaring secession from Great Britain. And no, I’m not a Scot, although by adoption I am. So my pick is a saltire-bearing T-shirt with the legend ‘supermac’ written beneath it. Not the best picture in the world, I agree, but a website called Proudly Scottish can be forgiven anything, on St Andrew’s Day.
