It’s the season to be giving. But it’s nice to get something back, right? So if you give EFF a year end donation, you get to choose from a special edition xkcd t-shirt or hooded sweatshirt as your reward – while stocks last, anyway.

So if you don’t know xkcd it is the geek comic of choice.

And if you don’t know EFF, they are the people who defend free speech, stand up for privacy, fight for government transparency, support consumer rights, and protect your right to innovation in the digital world – all through helping people who fall foul of this kind of government or commercial limiting of our human right to look at porn, make a prat of ourself in an email, say what we think about any subject etc online. Not including hacking into the pentagon of course… or maybe even that.

This T-shirt/hoodie choice is a tough one. The T-shirt is classic but the hoodie is winter appropriate. The T-shirt actually seems to work a little better with the comic strip, but the hoodie is geekier. Maybe I’ll double donate and get both.

Limited edition T-shirts are fantastically valuable if you pick the right ones, so you could see this as a financial investment for the future. Point is, without organisations like EFF there might not be a digital future we like the look of, so even if this doesn’t become a sought after classic, you’ll probably have helped save the world. Sort of.
