What happens when you read Swallows and Amazons aged 23 …?Monday, July 8, 2013 9:31
There’s a whole cultural divide thing between nations – as everybody knows. So to understand my honey I had to read a bunch of literature that should have been given to me when I was nine or eleven or something … but it was worth it.
So (as an example) when he watches Top Gear, I actually know what ‘Stig’ means, although why a Neanderthal is driving cars round an itty-bitty track is still a mystery to me.
And I read Swallows and Amazons too – which was quite hilarious, especially getting my head around somebody called Titty. You know, if people let their kids wander like they wander in these books, they’d be had up for child cruelty. But I did get the thing about little boats and sailing being very cute. So this Swallows vest by Small Victory Clothing is a cool item, which reminds me of that crash course in British culture. £22.00 for an all over print design that has a kind of olde Englishe vibe to it. I like it. Not available yet either, but if you order now, they send it to you after 22 July.
He had to read Anne of Green Gables. He said it explained a lot.
