Finally…

// 09.27.05

Alright, I’ve still got more music tees, but I’ll just get on with the winner and save the others for another day. So… the Shirty for “Best Music Related Tee” goes to… (drum roll) Tenth Division for their “Maintain Your Faith” tee with it’s cross of vinyl! (roaring applause)

It came down to these two tees. But in the end, the vinyl one beats out the I [heart] my record collection one. But they’re both from Tenth Division, so I guess it doesn’t really matter.

This tee reminds me of this song by this guy called “Marc with a C” about his love of vinyl and thrift shop finds. It has a line that goes something like: “It’ll cost ya twenty dollars for some Avril Lavigne, but for a dollar I’ll take Tapestry by Carol King.” and something about Kurt Cobain knowing music sounds best on vinyl and the Black Nirvana record having an extra track…

- Actually, these guys have got several cool tees. Check out the “City Love” tees too if the record tees aren’t your thing.

Another Nominee

// 09.23.05

Alright, I’ll stop with the nominees and announce the winner soon, but I had to go ahead and post this “Sound System” tee up. ISO50 recently launched their new line (so be sure to check the whole collection out), which would’ve made a solid post in itself, but this one was just fitting with the music kick I’ve been on.

So… there ya go. I’ll move on soon, I swear…

oh, who am I kidding? I’ve got several more music tees that I really wanna post.

Dual Purpose Post

// 09.22.05

I finally got around to watching Bubba Ho-Tep last night. If you haven’t seen it, you should. What better premise for a movie is there than Elvis growing old in an East Texas nursing home, along with a black JFK and a zombie on the loose that sucks souls out of old people’s assholes to stay alive? I know that might not sound good, but it’s fuckin’ brilliant…

The movie starts with Elvis laying in bed… “I was dreamin’. Dreamin’ my dick was out and I was checkin’ to see if that infected bump on the head of it had filled with pus again. If it had, I was gonna name it after my ex-wife Priscilla and bust it by jackin’ off. Or I’d like to think that’s what I’d do. Dreams let you think like that. Truth was, I hadn’t had a hard-on in years.” - wow.

So I like to think that if Elvis was still around, he’d still be a pretty hip cat. Therefore, this tee with the King behind the turntables gets a nomination for the best music Shirty coming up too…

Shirty Nominees

// 09.20.05

In case you haven’t noticed, I like music. A lot. I wouldn’t consider myself a music snob or anything, but when I ask people what kind of music they listen to, 90% of ‘em say, “I listen to everything.” And normally that turns out to mean “whatever is on the radio.” But I really do listen to a lot of different shit. Anything from Hip Hop to different kinds of electronica, some country (but very few country artists, mostly like Bloodshot Records) to rock, pop to funk, folk to punk. Pretty much everything except the FM dial. So do me a favor, next time somebody asks you what you listen to… have an answer besides “everything”. At least a couple of bands you like or something.

And if you’ve never heard Sun Ra and His Solar Arkestra. Check it out. It’s some great shit. When I came across Listen Clothing (they have tons of great funk shit) this Sun Ra one was callin’ my name. So that in turn sparked my curiosity to see if there were any other Sun Ra shirts out there. I gotta say, I was a bit surprised to find (but not as excited by) this other one [possibly] available from Louisiana Music Factory. The contact page says they are on Decatur Street in New Orleans. I’m pretty sure that’s downtown NO, so you might wanna call them and see if they are still around before ordering… hopefully they are. But anyway, there’s a couple more nominees for the upcoming Shirty for Best Music Related Tee.

note: I saw this DVD once called The Magic Sun, it was dissappointingly short, but it was just tripped out negative black and white video shot super closeup to the band members hands playing instruments and shit. Worth watching if you ever have a chance. If you’re a Netflix member, go add it to your list here.

Update: You might remember a while back I posted up a chick’s shirt from Secret Handshake. Well, they got in touch asking me if I saw their Sun Ra shirt by artist Tim Kerr since I was on the subject. I do remember seeing it now, but damn! 3 Sun Ra shirts. I guess that just goes to show how many tees are out there… Anyway, this one definitely deserves to be in this group of nominees. I like it at least as much as the Listen Clothing one and more than the other one.

Shirty Nominee (Music Related)

// 09.19.05

Okay, I guess it’s been a while since we handed out a Shirty award, so this time let’s honor the creators of music themed shirts. Not by a band or label (that’s what “Hear it, Wear it” is for), but for a designer that tips their hat to music in general, to a style of music - or the completely unauthorized use of an artist’s likeness. So here’s the first nominee by Siknuss. A tribute to the days when Cube was a real nigga - with attitude even. What has this world come to? Straight Outta Compton… into what? Malibu?

Anyway, doesn’t look like Siknuss sells through their site, but Krudmart has some size larges…

DissIzIt!

// 08.17.05

And the Shirty for “Best Graff Tee” goes to… (drum roll)… Slick, for this “I Can Think” tee. (Roaring applause)

His brand, DissIzit! with future collaborations coming, is definitely a line to keep your eyes on. The tees are 30 bucks, but you get a free lunchbox and poster with ‘em… that’s fair for an award winning tee, right?

and… I don’t usually get a hardon for plushes, but I gotta get one of these spray can pillows. (6″ D x 16″ H) - “Shake pillow for real spraycan sound!” - DOPE!

UPDATE: And while we’re talking about this cat, Slick… I almost forgot, he was also a nominee for that “Best Corporate Logo Remix” Shirty that Fabricali took home… or emailed home… or whatever.

Anyway, no commentary needed, just look at it. Another nice one Slick.

Believe the Hype!

// 08.15.05

Hype Type Design Studio is a graphic design agency that I wouldn’t be telling you about, except for the fact that they have a very nice little store as well. They have a some cool Hype branded gear including this one by Dave Kinsey, which happened to be one of the nominees for the upcoming “shirty” for best graff tee - and they also carry some Obey Giant clothing…

Maybe I haven’t been perusing all the shops that carry Obey, but I hadn’t seen these limited edition “Tongue” tees before…

Shirty Nominee 1 (Graff Style)

// 08.11.05

I guess I’ve been a bit ass-backwards on the way I’ve been bringing the Shirtys to you. So here it is the way I should’ve been doing it. The first nominee for the upcoming Shirty for “Best Graff Tee” is “Stencils 101″ - part of 3sixteen’s new line of tees. Hard!

-don’t miss the “Robots Will Kill” tee while you’re there too.

Nominee (Corporate Logo Remix)

// 07.31.05

Alright, I know I promised to post up the nominees for that “Best Corporate Logo Remix” Shirty that Fabricali swooped on, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. So here’s one of them. These guys took a nice stab at Ralph Lauren with this tee. Good one Threadpit.

Shirty Awards #3

// 07.27.05

So the hype is over, Padme couldn’t just get a c-section and save Anakin from turning to the dark side and busting all Frankenstein-ishly from the operating table, but here it is anyway, the winner for a tee based on something Star Wars… notice none are Lucas licensed products. They all suck!

And the Shirty for “Best Star Wars Tee” goes to… (drum roll) Ben Saffer of Urban Arts, for his fresh, minimal take on the stormtrooper image. Come on up here Ben! (Roaring applause)

Our friends at KrudMart have very limited quantities left of this shirt, but I got them to knock 3 bucks off the prices for TeeJunkie readers in honor of Ben’s Shirty Award. You gotta buy it today or tomorrow though (July 27 & 28), right now it’s $26. After that it goes back to $29… if there’s any left.

And let’s see if we can have an award ceremony where nobody gets shot like when Fabricali won, okay?

:::::::::::::

And here are the nominees… go ahead, click ‘em and have a look.
